We are immensely happy to announce that the annual interschool festival FABULA 2008 will be celebrated for four days on a grand scale at Rajagiri Higher Secondary School, Kalamassery from October 24 - 27, 2008. The Management, PTA, Staff and Students are working together to host this mega event. We cordially invite you to the function and solicit your esteemed patronage and encouragement. We express our thanks and appreciation for the great support that you have so far extended to us.
FABULA is conceived as a tribute to the great visionary and educationist Rev. Fr. Francis Sales CMI, the founder of Rajagiri School. He is remembered with great reverence and respect on this occasion.
FABULA enhances an integral development of multiple zones of intelligence of pupils through arts and sports. It aims at grooming intellectuals, dancers, musicians and sports stars. The four-day contest beginning on October 24, 2008 in 5 events will showcase sporting prowess and scintillating performing skills of more than 1000 children from different schools in Kerala.

GANAMELA CONTEST
General Rules & Regulations
The Ganamela competition is open to all schools in Kerala. (State, CBSE, ICSE syllabi etc.) on an invitation basis. There is no entry fee for the participation.
The contest will be held on Monday, 27th October 2008 at Rajagiri Higher Secondary School Auditorium from 9 a.m. onwards.
Students of classes 7-12 are eligible to participate.
Only one team consisting of maximum 10 members including singers is eligible to participate from a school. In addition, the team can be assisted by two students and two escorting teachers.
Entry form appended herewith is to be filled in and submitted to The Convener, Ganamela Contest on or before Tuesday, 30th September 2008
The performance on the stage should be befitting, decent and appealing in form and content.
GANAMELA CONTEST
In Detail ...................................................................................
Each team will be given maximum 20 minutes for their performance. By this time, the team has to perform 3 songs (may be film songs) of which one should be in Malayalam. At a time, not more than 7 members can play musical instruments.
Both solo and duet are permitted.
Each team will be given maximum 10 minutes for arranging and tuning the musical instruments before the contest.
All musical Instruments should be brought by the participants themselves.
Adequate sound system will be provided by the organizing committee
which includes
1) One 16 channel mixer unit, stage monitors, connection cables for musical instruments, power supply boards etc.
2) Maximum 10 microphones will be provided for both the musical instruments and vocals.
CD/FLOPPY or any other form of pre-recorded music should not be
used for the performance.
Kindly avoid songs which are vulgar and obscene.
Dress code of the participants should be neat and modest.
Combining male and female participants for singing the songs and playing the instruments in the contest is left to the discretion of each school.

FUSION DANCE CONTEST
General Rules & Regulations
The Fusion Dance competition is open to all schools in Kerala (State, CBSE, ICSE Syllabi etc.) on an invitation basis. There is no entry fee for the competition.
The contest will be held on Saturday, 25th October 2008 at Rajagiri Higher Secondary School Auditorium.
Students of classes 8 to 12 are eligible for participation.
Only one dance team consisting of maximum 10 members including a singer is eligible to participate from a school. In addition, the team can be assisted by 2 additional students for providing cues for music and lights and 2 escorting teachers.
The entry form appended herewith is to be filled in and submitted to the Convener, Fusion Dance Contest on or before Tuesday, 30th September 2008.
The fusion dance contest will be held in three rounds.
First Round – A prepared dance sequence by a group of at least 7 members of the team for 6 to 8 minutes based on a selected theme. The participants are required to convey a specific theme/story/moral through the dance which should include a compulsory narration of the same (maximum 1 minute) before the performance.
Second Round – A dance performance by any four members of the team choreographed to a music bit of 3 minutes duration provided on the spot by the D.J. Props will be provided at the time of performance.
Third Round – A Sing ‘n’ Dance round in which one member of the team should dance with a karaoke song of any language performed by another member of the team. The duration of this round will be 6 minutes maximum.
All the above rounds will be held consecutively.
Each team will get maximum 5 minutes for stage setting, if any, before the contest.

FUSION DANCE CONTEST

Performance Order:
After the confirmation of registration, the teams will be grouped into different clusters. The team representatives of each cluster will be called for taking their lot at a suitable time allotted to them before the contest. The order of performance given by the lot should be strictly followed.
Code of Conduct :
The performance should be value oriented, decent and appropriate for the occasion.
Disqualification:
Reason for disqualification include, but are not limited to, inappropriate choreography/music, illegal competitor(s), use of forbidden properties etc.
Teams will be disqualified if found with unregistered competitors, more or less competitors than allowed on the floor etc.
All team leaders are requested to possess an authorisation letter from the head of respective institutions proving the identity of team members.
Use of fire and water is strictly prohibited on the stage.
Age-appropriate choreography and music must be used. Profanity, vulgarity and suggestive music and choreography are prohibited and will result in disqualification.
Performance exceeding the time limit will not be evaluated.
Display of violence in any form is forbidden.
Any form of vulgarity and obscenity on the stage is banned.
Music
Teams must provide their own audio source in a Compact Disc (CD-R, CD-RW) in Audio or MP3 format. It must consist of fusion theme music for Round 1 and Karaoke music for Round 3 respectively. Music must be recorded at the beginning of the CD with no other music recorded. Bring an extra CD in case of lost or damaged media. The music CD should be labelled with your team’s name and phone number in case it is lost. No Audio cassette will be permitted. Teams are strongly recommended to bring good quality audio.
Interruption of Performance
If the interruption is due to the fault of the equipment of the organizing committee, teams may restart from the beginning or at the point of interruption. If interruption is due to the failure of the teams’ equipment, supplies, music, the team may either continue or withdraw from the competition.
Judging Criteria
The Fusion Dance Contest will be evaluated based on the following criteria by a panel of experts.

Authenticity
Teams will be evaluated as to whether the dance(s) performed are genuine, innovative and acceptable in content and form to the community.

Dance Performance
Teams will be judged on the quality of interpretation and presentation of their dance(s). Maximum utilization of time and properties provided will also be considered. Teams will lose one (1) point for every minute that they exceed their scheduled dance time.

Team performance
Evaluation will be made on the team’s ability to synchronize the performance of all dance members with the music and perform their dance(s) so as to exhibit a true oneness. Teamwork and perceptive interpretation of the dance(s) by the team as a whole will be considered.

Theme Music
Judges will also consider the use and relevance of pre-recorded music for the thematic presentation. Quality and authenticity of the music will also be considered.

Technique
Performance will be evaluated based on the various dance techniques executed by the competitors. This includes the styles, movements, body lines, foot placement, balancing etc.

Choreography
The selection and order of movements and transitions executed during the performance will be judged. Good choreography demonstrates an intimate connection with the music as well as variety and contrast.

Song selection and execution
Selection of song and quality of karaoke for the Sing ‘n’ Dance round will be evaluated. Synchronization of dance and song will be an important criterion.

Overall effect and impression
The overall general effect and impression of the dance(s) will also be considered.

Organizer’s Responsibilities
A stage with a flat area of approximately 10m x 7m.
All light and sound equipments required for the competition including spot lights and dancing lights will be provided with the help of efficient Sound and Light engineers. However, team members may provide cues for their music and lights.
The organizer will arrange a panel of eminent judges and a qualified score keeper.
The organizer will provide make-up rooms and rooms for keeping musical instruments.
The organizing committee will attempt to adhere to the schedules of all events but it reserves the sole right to make any change in the schedule of the programme. If there is any change in time, it will be announced early.
Meals will be served to all registered members and escorting teachers of the team.
Complaints, if any, shall be made in writing to the respective Conveners of the contests.
Photography or Videography of the event can be taken by authorized members of the team with prior permission of the Organizing Committee.
All efforts will be made to telecast the programme through the leading T.V. channels.
Results will be announced within one hour after the completion of the contest and prizes will be distributed in the valedictory function to be held on Monday, 27th October 2008.
The decision of the Organizing Committee will be final and binding on all parties.
Contestant’s Responsibilities
All contestants must read the Rules and Regulations for the competition and strictly adhere to them.
Escorting teachers are requested to report to the Convener of the concerned contest on arrival.
Escorting teachers and team captains are responsible to see that their teams are ready and in position when the competition is announced.
Contestants must demonstrate good sportsman-spirit on and off the competition floor.
Contestants are requested to respect the Judges and are not supposed to influence them in any manner.
Teams should arrange transportation, make-up, costumes and musical instruments at their own cost.
Combining male and female dancers in the contest is left to the discretion of the participating school.
A team may be disqualified for any one of the following reasons:
Conduct unbecoming a lady or gentleman
Failure to report on time for competition
Falsification of details in the entry form.
